How I'd define a shrine is a place where I can yap about a thing I like. In a way, it reaffirms my love for it. It deconstructs all notion of comparison. Because at the end of the day, the conclusion is the same: your amount of love for one thing does not devalue my love for it, and vice versa.

haikavetham

regarding their history

They met during their student days, particularly in the House of Daena. In Kaveh's friendship quest, he mentioned to have approached Haitham under the assumption that the boy was feeling lonely, or 'bullied' by his schoolmates (that was not actually the case). After the fated encounter, the two reconvened and became friends, matching each other's energy in learning.

They fell out due to an altercation during their thesis project. They disagreed on the role of outsiders when it comes to assisting a learner's capacity to excel. It began to delve into personal territory, wherein Haitham would call Kaveh out for the real intentions behind his kind nature. According to him, Kaveh gives to others in order to quell the guilt he feels. Kaveh grew upset at this declaration, and exclaimed that they should not have met.

Upon parting ways, they set off into their own paths. As adults, Kaveh makes a name for himself as a master architect in Sumeru, and earns himself the nickname "The Light of Kshahrewar". Meanwhile, Haitham works to become the Grand Scribe. They reunite in Lambad's Tavern sometime after Kaveh finished constructing his magnum opus, the "Palace of Alcazarzaray". All who has gazed upon the beauty of the Palace did not know the price of building it. But at that moment, having seen Haitham again, Kaveh spills the truth behind its building process, and what transpired in his life following their fall-out.

Afterwards, they live together in the same building given to them by the Akademiya. The present house used to be a research facility, where they could reside in during their thesis. Originally, it was under the ownership of both Haitham and Kaveh. But Kaveh forfeited his ownership because he was still living in his family house. Since his return, he pays Haitham rent, as per [Kaveh's] wishes.

It is by the event Parade of Providence that Kaveh acquires closure regarding his father's death--after being saddled by a guilt since he was a child that he may have been the root to him passing away. At the tail-end of the event, it would be shown that Haitham joined as the host in order to gain access to the technicalities, logistics, and legalities of the Inter-Darshan competition. It was concluded that it was not Kaveh's doing that influenced his father's trip to the desert after losing the Inter-Darshan competition, but due to a man named Sachin, who persuaded the father to go there. By extension, then, he and Haitham would gain closure to their past.

Since then, the two would appear as side characters. They are shown frequently together and are significantly more amiable. They've finally gone to marriage therapy

towards liking them

I love them because they are both well-written characters and their relationship is profound. Their relationship speaks of loss and grieving a living person. It goes to show that fall-out among friends still strikes a pain unique from its romantic counterpart.

In real life, someone can fall into a trap of perceiving their friend from rose-tinted glasses. If our friend have done something questionable or plain wrong, chances are, we may have told them what they wanted to hear instead of what they needed to. This is especially true in the case of haikavetham, when the internal and external factors have not been kind to them. Kaveh, in particular, may have sensationalized Haitham, thinking nothing could go wrong between them. Paired with the underdeveloped emotional maturity among teenagers, his views of Haitham shattered. It took some time for him to accept that their views would be different, as seen here:

"Our views are contradictory, but it is through contradiction that more speculation and philosophy may be born." [x]
"Rationality and sensibility, language and architecture, knowledge and human feelings... Things that can never be integrated are what constitute the two sides of the mirror — indeed, of the entire world." [x]

Haitham too would contain something similar:

"Kaveh is a familiar face, similarly lacks familial attachments, and is the polar opposite of himself as a scholar — that is to say, an excellent mirror. Human vision is limited, but it can be perfected through the presence of another genius. Taking this opportunity, Alhaitham will be able to observe other aspects of this world and thus understand more things that may have otherwise been unfathomable." [x]

In other words: not only they as fictional characters serve to be narrative foils of each other, where both their stories need to be explored and understood in order to comprehend their individual characters; but also, they need each other in showing possibilities they may otherwise be blindsided to.

It is debatable whether it is recommended to rekindle an old flame in real life. There is no one-size-fits-all solution. But since we are dealing with a fictional pairing, it seems to have worked in their favour. Even as adults, they continue to bicker. Kaveh in particular can be cutting with his words, which may cause Haitham to retaliate in the same energy. Fortunately, they find peace in each other's company post-Parade of Providence; they have grown kinder. Haitham has an excellent sense of distinguishing whether it is the right time to tease Kaveh or not. Kaveh is more soft-spoken, calmer, and relaxed with Haitham. He searches for him with ease. He, who once did not like to publicise living with Haitham, is comfortable announcing to their friends that it's time for he and Haitham to go home during the epilogue of Cyno's story quest, part two.

Theirs is a love that withstood the test of time and matured into a sense of stability and security.

Beyond their history and the implications of their interactions, I like how their character designs, constellations, principles, idle animations are meant to complement each other. This notion has also been reiterated in their respective character stories, through the metaphor of a 'mirror', which I already mentioned earlier.

On another note, I also love them because they're such an inspiration to remain curious; to enjoy learning. Learning something does not exist in isolation. In order to actively remember it, you need to connect various points, compare and contrast, engage in discussion. Challenge the stance of the other. Know where they're coming from. Haitham and Kaveh do that. I too have had my own experiences with this, and I can attest it's fun, gives the brain a good exercise. Discussing a material with numerous people, writing a thinkpiece about it are enjoyable. Even in material that I pick up for fun, it is fun to connect the dots.

Someone else on the internet had said along the lines how Kaveh is a STEM student who is humanities-passing while Haitham is a humanities student who can pass for a STEM major. Quite the succinct way of putting it. Part of their story was having published journal articles for the sole purpose of rebutting the other's points, when their majors are vastly different--Haitham dabbles in linguistics, while Kaveh with architecture. It implies, then, that they knew the other's subject rather well. I mean ffs-- getting a paper published is difficult but to have dropped bombs only to spur an intellectual debate? Go off, you two. (`−ㅿ−´) It inspires me!! STEM and Humanities are intrinsically connected, if not the same multifaceted thing.

Going back, it's great to emulate Kaveh's creativity and balancing critique and acceptance; and Haitham's ceaseless questions.

"I suppose, though, that just sticking to your guns and completely disregarding other people's feedback would also not be a good thing." [x]
"The only things researchers should abide by are debates and dialectics. Only by questioning everything at all times can one avoid falling into prejudice." [x]

To know someone is to love them. And to love someone is to be changed. They have significantly impacted each other's lives for the better, in spite of their fallout and distinct principles. I find it beautiful that they chose to return and stay.

my headcanons

  • They like to gossip. hahaha
  • Haitham is a slow walker while Kaveh is a fast walker
  • Both are in the ace spectrum
  • They have a tendency to stay up all night
  • They usually sleep in their respective rooms. But I like to think during weekend afternoons, they would have a siesta together. :3
  • They have grandma hobbies: gardening, crocheting/knitting, baking

my favourite hkvthm flavours in fanworks

  • Akademiya days
  • When the fallout is mentioned lol
  • Either one of them being a self-deprecating mf
  • Haitham slipping in a 'senior' during the present
  • Haitham braiding Kaveh's hair
  • Kaveh pinning Haitham's hair with his accessories
  • Clotheswap
  • Drunk affection
  • Not functioning well due to the other being absent
  • Playing the dutar together
  • Either one of them going apeshit because the other got harmed--be it done by a person or otherwise
  • Similarly, the flavour of them going 'wtf did you just say about him?' when they catch someone talking badly about the other. Especially if it's Kaveh doing it
  • Haitham being strict about accommodating Akademiya officials/students. They must follow the time they booked with him. However, with Kaveh, no prior appointment is needed and he can enter Haitham's office as he pleases

conclusion

I don't play about haikavetham I love these losers so much, I'm glad they found each other again. They . They were really destined to be together. They are each other's home and family. Honestly, the only thing keeping them from becoming canon are CPC censors.

notes

I use the catch-all phrase haikavetham in respect of Japanese shipping etiquette online: the first half of the ship name signifies the top; the second half signifies the bottom. i'm fine with them switching on more rated bodies of work.

seventeen

about seventeen

SEVENTEEN is a kpop group consisting of thirteen members. Members are sorted into three units: vocal (unit leader Woozi, Jeonghan, Joshua, DK, Seungkwan), performance (unit leader Hoshi, Jun, The8, Dino), and hiphop (unit and group leader S.Coups, Wonwoo, Mingyu, Vernon). They debuted on May 26, 2015 with the song Shining Diamond.

Their first win would be through their title track Pretty U under the album Love Letter. Since then, with succeeding comebacks, Seventeen would have garnered more accolades--both in music shows and awards alike.

In terms of variety TV, formal beginnings would begin through One Fine Day, but they have been hosting self-conducted radio shows inside their company buildings since predebut. Their ongoing variety show Going Seventeen, is known to have acquired a separate set of fans solely interested in it, unique from the official SVT fans known as Carats.

how i came to be a carat

I discovered them in the first quarter of 2015 through a mashup of EXO's Love Me Right and SVT's Adore U, which was uploaded on Youtube by then. I have also seen Adore U's music video on MTV. I loved the production design of the mv, and the song was no less catchy. The key gesture, too, caught my eye. I would only begin to listen to their discography and check out their appearances by 2016. I joined as a Carat during Pretty U promotions; Love Letter Repackaged, with the title track VERY NICE, would be my first comeback.

biases

My ult bias is Joshua. While my semi-ult is Wonwoo.

The first member to have caught my eye since seeing their Adore U mv was Woozi. But he would not end up as my bias. Instead, it was Joshua. It was either because I found him pleasing to look at, or because he plays guitar, or because he watches anime hahaha. I still remember vividly the Youtube compilation of lolikitty entitled English Time with Seventeen. I would watch it as a baby carat, and find in one event that the members conducted a livestream on Twitter, Joshua would mention he was watching Bungo Stray Dogs. I must note that BSD would become one of my most favourite animanga. So for me, it was a double win.

Joshua is even funnier now in GoSe--with remnants of his supposed 'gentlemanly' persona transforming into a sarcastic, questionable personality. Having been by bias since 2016, he still remains so until now. (˶˃ ᵕ ˂˶)

Wonwoo is my secondary bias. I cannot really pinpoint when I began to like him. Like Joshua, I like seeing the multitudes in his personality--between being relatively quiet to having bursts of high energy. I have also watched some of his gaming streams, and his gameplay of Poppy's Playtime would be my favourite.

conclusion

SVT is an integral part of my life. I don't mean this parasocially; I am simply sentimental at the thought of how I grew up just as they did. They honed their craft just as I have with mine. The bigger implication here is that, we as humans have always turned to art when we experience setbacks, and I am no different. Though I have my own path to go like they do, I'm glad to be here at the same time as them, in order to enjoy their music and other material they have yet to offer to the public. They've come a long way, truly.

blond shrine

I've decided to set this up because I realised the amount of blond(e) characters I end up adoring. They all fall on different plot points across a specific cartesian plane.

On the featured quadrants:

x-axis runs from: overt silliness to serious disposition

y-axis runs from: concerningly deranged to actually, genuinely sane. lol
